NTU College of Pharmacy Launches Bachelor’s Degree Program in Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Sciences

The College of Pharmacy at National Taiwan University (NTU) has established the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Sciences, with the first cohort to be admitted in the 2026 academic year. The program will be open to NTU students in their second year or above, aiming to cultivate interdisciplinary professionals who will lead the future development of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.

In response to the rapid global growth of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors and the increasing demand for skilled professionals, the College of Pharmacy spent two years preparing for the establishment of this program. By integrating academic resources from multiple departments across NTU, the program seeks to nurture next-generation talent equipped with global perspectives, practical competencies, and interdisciplinary expertise, thereby strengthening Taiwan’s innovation capacity and resilience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries amid an evolving global landscape.

The program adopts an internal admission system, allowing NTU students in their second year or above to apply for transfer into the program. Graduates will be awarded a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. The curriculum emphasizes key knowledge and practical skills in biotechnology and pharmaceutical sciences, including modern pharmaceutical technologies, biopharmaceuticals, regulatory affairs and intellectual property, and clinical research. In addition, the program will progressively introduce English-medium instruction (EMI) to enable students to engage with global trends in biotechnology and pharmaceutical development and apply their knowledge in international contexts.

A distinctive feature of the program is its interdisciplinary curriculum, which integrates courses and expertise from multiple academic units at NTU, including the School of Pharmacy, Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences and Medical Biotechnology, Department of Chemical Engineering, Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Department of Life Science, and College of Law. This cross-disciplinary structure reflects the growing demand for professionals who can bridge diverse fields within Taiwan’s biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Through this integrated training, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the full biotechnology and pharmaceutical pipeline—from drug discovery and development to manufacturing and regulatory approval—preparing them to navigate the rapidly evolving global industry landscape.

Beyond classroom learning, the program places strong emphasis on practical training and industry engagement. The College has signed internship cooperation memoranda with several leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in Taiwan, including Synmosa Biopharma Corporation, Yung Shin Pharmaceutical Industrial Co., Ltd., Lotus Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., Standard Chemical & Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., TaiMed Biologics Inc., and Orient Europharma Co., Ltd. These partnerships will provide students with valuable opportunities to participate in industry internships, allowing them to gain firsthand experience in real-world operations while enhancing their career readiness and professional perspectives.

The establishment of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Sciences marks an important milestone for the NTU College of Pharmacy in its mission to cultivate innovative talent. It also reflects the College’s response to global trends in pharmaceutical technology advancement, public health challenges, and the growing importance of resilient pharmaceutical supply chains. Looking ahead, the College will continue to strengthen collaboration with government agencies, academia, and industry partners, while expanding international exchange platforms. Through these efforts, NTU aims to nurture globally competitive professionals with a strong sense of social responsibility, contributing to the long-term development and global presence of Taiwan’s biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
